Precautions for Shock Absorber Installation.

Proper installation of shock absorbers is critical for the safety and performance of a vehicle. Following the right procedures ensures that the shock absorbers function effectively, preventing issues such as abnormal noises, component damage, and improper suspension geometry. This article provides essential precautions to keep in mind during the installation process, from avoiding air guns to handling car springs with care, and ensuring the correct use of tools. Adhering to these guidelines will help achieve a successful installation and maintain the integrity of the vehicle’s suspension system.

When installing shock absorbers, do not use air cannons to tighten them.

Never use a cannon! Because the use of air cannons can easily cause thread slippage, making it difficult to lock firmly, resulting in accessory damage and abnormal noises during driving. The correct installation method is to use appropriate internal hexagonal fixed connecting rods one by one, and tighten the nuts with a professional torque wrench. The use of air cannons is prohibited!

Use a dedicated compressor for disassembling and assembling springs!

The energy of car springs is not weak, and it is easy to cause the springs to pop out without professional tools, which is very dangerous!

Clamp the piston rod with pliers, do not use it!

Tools should be used correctly and operations should be standardized. When locking the top screw of the tower, we must be careful not to use pliers to clamp the piston rod, as this can cause oil leakage from the shock absorber.

Measure the height of the vehicle before disassembly and assembly, and position it after installation!

After installation, it is necessary to confirm the changes in vehicle height. Before installation, we need to record the height of the vehicle. Generally, the height value is read based on the distance from the lower edge of the wheel hub to the wheel arch. After confirmation, the new shock absorber may have changed the suspension geometry of the vehicle, so after the shock absorber is installed, we also need to perform four-wheel alignment.
